Technology Tips
Please do not forward e-mails about viruses. Please check at www.antivirus.com
and see if the virus is truly a threat first. If it is a threat
contact your building tech.
Please do not install these programs:
1. AOL when installed can destroy
your network connectivity. If you wish to check your AOL e-mail,
please go to AOL.com where you can check your e-mail on the web
site, but this is not recommended (see below).
2. Downloading programs is not recommended because:
· Viruses can be hidden pretty much anywhere
· It may not be legal to use that program
· The programs are not supported by the school district
Suggestions for your computer:
1. Be careful of web-based mail. Some attachments might have viruses.
It is possible to check your web-based mail, but the district does
not support it. If you absolutely need to check your e-mail on the
web, make sure not to download the attachments. Examples of web-based
e-mail include Hotmail, Yahoo, AOL Anywhere, and MSN.
2. Do not allow anyone other than Information Technology employees
or building techs to fix your computer if it is having problems.
If you have a problem notify your building tech.
3. Shut your computer down at night. This both saves energy and
reduces the chance of a computer crash. Shut down by clicking these
in sequence:
Start...Shut Down...OK
NOTE: Some computers will need to have the power button
pressed after this process. These computers do not have ACPI compatible
