Lake Tapps After-School Activities

Lake Tapps Activities Page

Our students at Lake Tapps Elementary are provided with a challenging curriculum during the day and our goal is to continue their enrichment after school as well. We have several staff members who provide after school activities, which are listed below. Please contact Mrs. Shelly Downey or Mrs. Christy Allen, the after school activity coordinators if you have questions. Specific information along with registration forms come home this fall.

All activities will be on Tuesday afternoons starting in late fall. Activities will take place from 3:15-4:15. Registration forms will come home about a month before classes start. These clubs are not on a first come, first serve basis. We accept all applications and then work to get as many students as possible into each activity. A drawing is held to determine who is in the club when numbers exceed the amount of students we can take.

Parents must pick students up at the end of clubs.

There is NO Activity Bus available to transport students home.

SCHOOL SPONSORED ACTIVITIES:

Lego Club – Mrs. Stanton and Mr. Meadows will provide a fantastic learning opportunity through the natural enthusiasm children have for Lego’s.  The children will work together on problem solving, math, and science concepts.

Ready, Set, Go – Mr. Smith and Mrs. Housden invite you to participate in physical activities designed to increase your heart rate and allow you to become a more active individual, while having fun.

Running Club – Mrs. Kriss and Mrs. Batten will provide a positive, educational, and fun experience in the world of running.  They want to help motivate kids to be healthy and active, and provide a fun environment to boost their self-esteem.  They want kids to have a “Get Moving” attitude!

Science Club – Mrs. Zulauf will provide students with fun and challenging science projects and experiments during this class.

Technology Club – Mrs. Stewart invites 3rd graders to learn about coding. (2nd graders if space available.)

    Band

Band is available for Grade 5 students. Band instruction is held at North Tapps Middle School from 7:50 - 8:30 a.m. three mornings a week. Band students may ride the middle school buses to NTMS, and bus transportation is provided back to DHES after band class. For further information, please check with your classroom teacher or our office.

    Cougar Chorus

The 4th and 5th grade students have the opportunity to join the Fall or Spring Cougar Chorus (or both). Members practice every Wednesday in the DHES music room with Mrs. Davenport. They prepare and sing for a variety of school and community events. See the Cougar Chorus page  for more information.

    Student Council

Student government at DHES is known as the Student Council. It is the purpose of this organization to improve our school, plan school projects, and promote school spirit. A representative is elected from each 4th and 5th grade class. Student Council officer elections are held in the fall.

    Facility Usage

Anyone interested in using school facilities for non-school related activities must complete and return a facility usage application. Applications can be obtained at any school office or at the district office. Following the return of the application, the director, coach or supervisor must meet with Mr. Anderson or his designee at Dieringer Heights Elementary School to discuss usage rules and confirm requested dates and times of usage. Groups using the facility need to follow specific usage rules and guidelines in order to continue to use the facility.

Please note: Facility Use Packet Information are available on a first come, first serve basis. No tournaments or special events are to be conducted on fields or grounds without permission from the school.

    Music/Physical Education

Our district recognizes the importance of the need for the arts and a well rounded education. At Dieringer Heights, we have the good fortune of having outstanding Music and P.E. Specialists for our students. All students will experience Music and P.E. one to two times weekly.

    Library

Our library is evolving into a multimedia resource center as technology develops. Children are provided the necessary library skills as well as a place to research, link to the curriculum, and check out books for the enjoyment and pleasure of reading.  E-books were recently added, so students can check out one e-book from our circulation.
