Dieringer Names Two New Executive Directors

The Dieringer School District is excited to welcome two new, experienced administrators to our district administrative team.

  • Calisa Castillo is joining the District as Executive Director of Student Services and replaces retiring Executive Director Betsy Minor Reid.
  • Kim Knight will be the Executive Director of Business Services.  She replaces Executive Director of Finance La Jean Rohland who is retiring after a 20 year career with the Dieringer School District.

Mrs. Calisa “Lisa” Castillo brings 25 years in public education experience along with private sector work in mental health, local government and law enforcement. She currently serves as the Director of Special Education and Student Support Services in a North Texas district. Her current position includes fiscal management coupled with personnel and program oversight for Special Education, Section 504, Dyslexia, School Counseling and Social Work, Student Health, McKinney-Vento/Foster Care, ELL/ESL and various other supportive roles such as School Behavioral Threat Assessment, Community Based Accountability, Project Based Learning, Professional Learning Communities and implementation of various other district initiatives.

Prior to her current role she was the Director of Federal Programs (Texas) and Administrator/Specialist

in School Based Behavioral Health for the Hawaii Department of Education – Maui District where she

also served on the founding MTSS Cadre for state program development and worked directly with the

state Attorney General’s office for district legal matters.

Multiple other roles in public education include Special Education Teacher and Department Chair,

Special Education curriculum writer, Dyslexia Interventionist and Trainer of Teachers, Accelerated

Reading and Math Specialist, School Counselor, ESL Coordinator, Section 504 Coordinator, Gifted and

Talented, Interim Asst/Principal, and Educational Diagnostician. She is also a nationally certified trainer

for Youth Mental Health First Aid.

Lisa and her husband of 32 years will be relocating from Texas after the lure of being close to a daughter

living in Tacoma and the beauty of Washington state was too compelling to ignore. They have 4

daughters together. The two youngest will both be attending University of Texas in El Paso with another

daughter continuing her work as a RN in a major hospital for the Houston Medical Center. The two who

are college students are eagerly awaiting school breaks to explore the numerous parks and recreational

activities in their soon to be new home base while mom and dad continue to encourage the other Texas

based daughter to explore her medical career options in the Greater Seattle area.

Upon completing her current contract, she will join us in Dieringer at the beginning of July.

“Lisa is going to be a fantastic addition to the Dieringer School District” said Superintendent Michael Farmer. “Her experiences in different systems across our country will bring a unique perspective to Dieringer that will benefit our students and staff.”   School board member Chelsea Steiner added, “We are so fortunate Calisa accepted our invitation to join the Dieringer team as Executive Director of Student Services.  She brings incredible knowledge, enthusiasm and exciting perspective to a position that supports each of our students and staff members.  I thoroughly enjoyed meeting her and think great things are ahead as we continue to grow this essential facet of our district’s reach.”

Ms. Kim Knight has worked in schools for over 14 years, both in buildings and at the district level.  Her current position is Director of Business and Human Resources at Eatonville School District. She is responsible for building the district budget, enrollment forecasting and staffing, year-end reporting and financial audits, grants management, recruitment, hiring and onboarding of new employees, vendor and employee contracts, is the district Risk Manager, oversees the Business Office, Child Nutrition and Technology Departments, has led 3 successful levy campaigns, and is a member of the district bargaining team.  She also serves on the Puget Sound Workers’ Compensation Trust Executive Board.

Prior to serving in schools, Kim worked for 13 years as an inventory analyst, fiscal agent, and assistant manager for Eddie Bauer Corporate Offices, Mikasa, and Macys. She then worked with Scarsella Bros., a heavy highway construction company out of Kent, for whom she acted as a payroll specialist and oversaw reporting and benefits for 5 unions across 4 states and all federal tax reporting.

Outside of the office, Kim spent 19 years as a Camp Fire leader and 12 years as a girls’ soccer coach.  She can also frequently be found assisting with the throwing events at high school track meets. Left to her own devices, she prefers to hike, ride, and travel.  Twenty one hikes in ‘21 is the goal for the year.

Born in Walla Walla, raised in Enumclaw, and a graduate of the University of Washington, Kim has lived in Puyallup for the past 22 years. She and Mike have 4 children, and two beautiful grandchildren, (soon to be three!) all of whom reside in western Washington.  Son Andrew is a teacher and coach for Shelton High School.  Daughter Rachel and husband Skyler live in Mt. Vernon where she is a systems engineer.  Daughter Amanda and family live in Port Orchard where she is a small business owner.  Their youngest daughter, Melissa, is a student at the University of Idaho.

“Kim brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to Dieringer from both her time in the K-12 school system and the private sector.  Her skills with forecasting tools and her understanding of the complexities of  small school districts will help us operate more efficiently and effectively, while ensuring we are making the most of our resources for students,” said Superintendent Michael Farmer.  Additionally, school board chair Greg Garrison said, “The Dieringer School Board could not be more excited about Kim Knight joining our team. Her years of experience and extensive knowledge of school finances will be a huge asset to the district for years to come.”
